Death of James (Jim) Frost

9th February 2018

Born 30 March 1921 in Walthamstow, London; died 31 January 2018.

Jim was nine years old when he gave his life to Jesus as a result of attending a series of evangelistic meetings conducted by Pastor John Howard. Soon after that he attended the Seventh-day Adventist church school in Grove Road at the time. At the age of 14, he was sponsored to attend Newbold Missionary College at Rugby (Newbold Revell) but after two semesters and due to lack of funds, he was unable to continue. He later returned to complete his studies in 1948 when Newbold College was relocated to Binfield.

Jim ran his first evangelistic campaign at Forest Gate during college breaks. He finally graduated in 1950 and ministered at Watford Town church. He later ministered in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth where he ran several campaigns in that district, even as far out as Norwich, resulting in several baptisms. Due to ill health, Jim was forced to leave, but was later asked by John Arthur to care for the church as leader in Torquay.

Even in retirement, Jim continued to do evangelism and take Sabbath preaching appointments until he reached the age of 90. He had a beautiful tenor voice and often sang sacred duets with his wife Joan as part of their continuing ministry. In more recent years, Jim suffered from Alzheimer's and was eventually settled in a nursing home. His faith was strong in the Lord and his favourite Bible passage was that which contains the most wonderful promise ever given to this world – John 14:1-3.

Jim and Joan (née Roper) had five children, several grand and great grandchildren. Sadly they lost a daughter, Carol, who died at the age of 33; and a son, also called Pastor Jim Frost, who tragically died with a few other Georgia-Cumberland Conference colleagues in a 2004 plane crash in the USA.

Please remember the family in your prayers; especially Joan, having lost her soulmate after 73 years together. Joan is now frail in health but still faithful and a supportive member in Great Yarmouth church.

The funeral service will take place on Monday 26 February at the Lowestoft church, 54 Saxon Rd, Lowestoft, NR33 7BT, at 12:30 pm. The committal will be at the Gorleston Crematorium, Oriel Avenue, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, NR31 7JJ at 2:20 pm. The reception will then take place at the Great Yarmouth church, Burnt Lane, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, NR31 0PG.

Donations in lieu of flowers will be accepted for evangelism in the Great Yarmouth district.
