On Thursday 7 March, One Vision, a leading charity in Hertfordshire, hosted a successful International Women's Day event at the Stanborough Park church. The event was well-attended by community members and dignitaries, including local MP Dean Russell, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Liz Green, Chief Constable Charlie Hall from Hertfordshire Constabulary, Councillor Aga Dychton, Deputy Mayor, and David Evans, Chief Strategy Officer of HPFT NHS Foundation Trust. The event was to recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions of women and present awards to those who have excelled in their respective fields of expertise.
Dean Russell, local MP for Watford, expressed his gratitude to One Vision for organising such an inspiring event. He was proud to attend an event filled with dedicated and talented individuals, emphasising the importance of recognising and celebrating women's achievements. Dean Russell MP was pleased to participate actively in the ceremony, where he extended his congratulations to the nominees and winners for their exceptional contributions.
Presenters
The International Women's Day event featured engaging speakers whose words resonated deeply with the audience. They shed light on both the progress made and the challenges still faced by women locally and nationally. Each contributor delivered passionately on this year's theme, 'Inspiring Inclusion'.
Amongst the presenters were Seventh-day Adventist leaders whose presentations engendered much positive feedback. The opening address was delivered by British Union Conference Director Sharon Platt-McDonald, highlighting historic milestones and challenging the audience to embrace positive change on issues around inclusion and gender parity. Pastor Royston Smith, South England Conference Evangelism Director, who presented on Jesus' compassion and equity, reflected on the affirming way He dealt with women and the importance it still holds for us today. Dr Jude Jeanville, President of the African Caribbean Dual Heritage Alliance, spoke emphatically on 'Justice for Women'. He presented an impassioned plea to redress the gender disparities to ensure a fairer future for women at all levels of society.
Awards
There was much celebration as nominees were acknowledged and applauded for their impactful services to the community. The atmosphere was charged with appreciation as they were presented with personalised plaques and certificates. Adventist members and individuals supporting our organisations were amongst the 18 recipients receiving community awards. These were as follows:
- Mrs Gloria Buffong – Lifetime Impact Award (for ministry through church and community mentoring and support
- Mrs Catherine Anthony Boldeau – Awarded for 'Women's Empowerment Initiatives & ADRA Projects'
- Ms Marcie Mendoza – Awarded for 'Excelling Herbal Medicine'
- Mrs Dionne Corrodus-Weekes – 'Youth Inclusion & Dagenham Eagles Projects' Award
- Mrs Tiann Madden – Wellbeing Award for School Teachers and Students
