ADRA Volunteers and Staff

17th November 2017

The ADRA-UK team, with a number of dedicated volunteers, packed a container heading for Rwanda with 5,100 gift boxes in just under 90 minutes. The team began just after 11:00 am on Thursday 16 November and completed the work around 12:30 pm. Items in the boxes included toys,IMG_3420 stationery and toiletries as well as good quality clothing.

ADRA-UK, in partnership with the ADRA Rwanda office, will distribute these gift boxes to children in the Kiziba Refugee Camp. Established in 1996 when the Kinyarwanda-speaking ethnic group were forced from their homes in the Congo, because of the violence, the camp is situated on the hillside in a remote region of the Western Provence of Rwanda.

Some of the people have been living in the camp for over 20 years due to the fact that they are unable to return to the Congo because of the continuing unresolved conflict in the region. And, most of the children have been born there.

"On behalf of ADRA-UK I would like to say thank you to all those who purchased a gift box and filled it with goodies for the children living in the Kiziba Refugee Camp, and thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped to pack the truck", said Bert Smit, CEO. "Your generosity reminds us of the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:40 (Message) when He said, 'Whenever you did…these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me – you did it to me.'"
