ADVENTIST PRESENCE AT QUEEN'S COMMONWEALTH DAY SERVICE

16th March 2017

The Queen's Commonwealth Day service this year was held on Monday 13 March at Westminster Abbey. Adventist presence at the service was Pastor Richard Daly in his role as BUC Communication and Media director.

Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations held on the second Monday in March. It is marked by a multifaith service in Westminster Abbey, normally attended by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth along with the Commonwealth Secretary-General and Commonwealth High Commissioners in London. The Queen delivered an address to the Commonwealth, which was broadcast throughout the world. The service can be seen here.

In her message for Commonwealth Day 2017, the Queen reflected on this year's theme of 'A peace-building Commonwealth' and the onward journey of The Queen's Baton Relay.

Pastor Daly in commenting on the day remarked, "it was a lovely service, to see20170313_163058 representatives from around the Commonwealth coming together. The service was spiritual, with scriptural passages read and familiar hymns being sung. The theme of a peace-building Commonwealth was highlighted throughout the day through poems, speeches and music."

This year's observation marked 40 years of the Commonwealth Day that became a global celebration in 1977.
