ASNA LAUNCH BOOK OF POETRY DURING ANNUAL CARERS' WEEKEND
23rd November 2017
The Adventist Special Needs Association (ASNA) launched its first book of Poetry ‒ Poetry for the Soul at the Celebration Banquet of the annual Carers' Respite Retreat on 30 September 2017. The weekend took place at the Jury's Inn, Oxford, 29 September - 1 October 2017. It was organised by ASNA to provide an oasis of calm and rest for unpaid carers throughout the UK.
Research has shown that there are 1 in 8 adults that care for someone with a disability or long term illness. This is an estimated 6.5 million carers in the UK. Carers face health and emotional challenges because of their caring responsibilities. This weekend provides peer, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual support for carers to enable them to 'recharge their batteries' as they continue their caring responsibilities.
The book Poetry for the Soul is an intergenerational project written by two carers ‒ a young carer who has a sibling with autism and an older carer who has a grandson with severe learning disabilities. The book presents the authors' reflections on their experiences and the impact of their faith through poetry. They hope to inspire many through the poetic word.
The cost per book is £6.99 + p&p. Discounts: Orders before the end of 2017 and more than 10 copies is discounted to £5.00 + p&p.
