Death of Gwendoline Marina Olney
8th February 2018
It is with sadness that we notify readers of the unexpected death of Gwendoline Marina Olney on Sabbath 3 February 2018. Gwen was born in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire on 29 November 1934, the daughter of John and Dora. After primary school Gwen attended Beech Hill County Secondary Modern School and then went on to complete secretarial training at Howell's Commercial School in Luton.
Gwen started to work for the Church in July 1957 as secretary to the Secretary Treasurer, J A Clement, at the South England Conference (SEC). This began her long, but not exclusive, association with the Secretariat department. In December 1962 Gwen transferred her allegiance to the British Union Conference where she worked for a year and two months as a secretary before she returned to the SEC in February 1964.
Twelve years later Gwen again moved, this time to be a secretary at the Northern Europe West Africa Division (now TED) office based in St Albans. But the allure of the SEC proved too much, and Gwen moved back in June 1977 after serving at the Division office for just seven months.
In June 1981 Gwen renewed her service to the Secretariat department, under Pastor Martin Anthony, a secretarial position she retained until her retirement at the end of June 1997.
In retirement Gwen remained involved at the Stanborough Park church where she had been a member since transferring from Luton Central church in 1973. She lived in the Garston area until quite recently when she moved to a care home.
We think of Gwen's sister, Anne Harris, and her wider family at this time and look forward to the second coming of Jesus, when separations caused by death will be no more.
