JEFFREY AND PATTIEJEAN BROWN AWARDED WORLD CHURCH MEDALLION

Sabbath 22 July 2017, at the Adventist Conference on Family Research and Practice, Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, Dr Jeffrey and Pattiejean Brown were presented with the General Conference Spalding Medallion Lifetime Achievement Award for Family Ministries. The award was presented by Dr Willie and Elaine Oliver, directors of Family Ministries for the world church. The medallion is given to persons whose ministry to families has had a positive, global impact.

Featured presenter at the conference was Shaunti Feldhahn, author of The Good News About Marriage, For Women Only, For Men Only, and For Parents Only. Present at the conference were Pastor Leslie Ackie, Family Ministries Director, British Union Conference, and Pastor Garry Gordon, formerly of the North England Conference, now a pastor in the Florida Conference, United States. Both pastors are Doctor of Ministry students in Family Ministries. Speaker for the event was Dr Derek Morris, a Newbold graduate originally from Bristol, now president of IMG_1303Hope Channel at the World Church headquarters.

Jeffrey was born in Birmingham and is a graduate of Newbold College of Higher Education and Andrews University (PhD Religious Education, Family Life Education and Counseling emphasis). He pastored in North England, Canada, the United States and Bermuda, and served as Director of Family Ministries in the North England and Bermuda Conferences. He has worked as a school counselor for University College Birmingham and a relationships counselor for National Relate. He is a Certified Family Life Educator and a qualified premarital counselling and marriage enrichment administrator with Prepare-Enrich. He taught at Bekwai and Agona-Ashanti Seventh-day Adventist Secondary Schools in Ghana and served as senior lecturer and Director of Pastoral Studies at Newbold College.

Pattiejean was born in Bermuda and is a graduate of Atlantic Union College where she received a BS in Behavioral Science and a BA in Liberal Arts. She is a qualified premarital counselling and marriage enrichment administrator with Prepare-Enrich and a certified Marriage Commitment leader. She served as Director of Ministerial Spouses and Family Ministries Assistant for the Bermuda Conference, and is currently an administrative assistant in the General Conference legal department. Pattiejean is the author of What On Earth Am I Doing? Leadership Lessons for Clergy Spouses. Jeffrey is the author of Single and Gifted: Making the Most of Your Singleness, and together they have authored The Total Marriage: A Guide to Successful Marriage; A Guide to Parenting: On The Winning Team With Your Children; and The Love Seasons: Finding Love in Unlikely Places.

Jeffrey served as IMG_1301president of the Bermuda Conference before being called to be Director of the Bradford Cleveland Brooks Leadership Center at Oakwood University and professor of pastoral care and religious education. He also served as Editor of Family Life, publication of the Adventist Association of Family Life Professionals. He now serves as Associate Editor of Ministry: International Journal for Pastors and Associate Secretary of the General Conference Ministerial Association. He is also a doctoral advisor at Andrews University.

Pattiejean and Jeffrey have conducted enrichment seminars for singles, couples, parents and children in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and the Caribbean. They have been blessed with two young adult children, Kristle, a postgraduate student in Florida (MA mental health counselling), and Jamel, a postgraduate student in California (MBA).

The Browns are the 43rd recipients of the Spalding Medallion Award.
