UNIQUE WITNESSING OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVENTIST CHURCH

19th January 2017

On 27 January 2017, Mel Gibson's acclaimed Hacksaw Ridge, a film about Desmond Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist conscientious objector who saved 75 men in WWII without bearing arms, is released in cinemas in the United Kingdom. This is a unique opportunity for Seventh-day Adventists around the territory of the BUC to talk to their friends, family and neighbours about their faith.

To assist with this outreach activity, there are several resources which are available for the members to purchase. Hero of Hacksaw Ridge is a small book that not only shares the story of the life of Desmond Doss, but an inspiring 30-page addition at the end of the book entitled, 'The Faith that Shaped the Man', provides vital information about the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The cost of the book is £1.70.

The Stanborough Press has also produced a special edition of Focus magazine that provides a deep insight into peace, hope and pacifism using the film Hacksaw Ridge as an inspiration. Copies of this magazine is available at 20p.

"This is a unique witnessing opportunity for church members to become engaged in evangelism. I understand that some churches have contacted local cinemas who have given permission for them to have the books available inside or who are allowing the members to distribute the books and magazines outside of the cinema", said Eglan Brooks, BUC Evangelism director. "We are not suggesting that our members necessarily go and see the film, however, it is a great opportunity for us to share our faith with others utilising a story that many will be familiar with when the film is released."

If you or your church would like to order either the book or the magazine, please use the following contacts:
