28th December 2017

A dedicated group of members and ministers from throughout the churches in Scotland met together on one of the coldest weekends of the year, in early December, to discuss Church Growth and Evangelism.

The 'GO Scotland' programme dealt with an update on the very latest data from the Barna research into 'Transforming Scotland' and followed this up with further challenging and motivating presentations. These topics included Church Growth principles from the book of Acts, a theological framework for Church Planting, motivating Personal Evangelism and also Nurture and Retention.

The speakers for the weekend were Dr Kirk Thomas, BUC Personal Ministries director, Dr Paul Tompkins, Scottish Mission President and Pastor Rory Mendez, pastor of the Glasgow district of churches. Each morning the group also met together for prayer sessions and Pastor Njay Njabulo reminded the group that despite whatever challenges we face "Jesus has the last word."

The concluding sessions dealt with a model for 'Nurture, Retention and Evangelism' and a discussion around the way forward leading up to and beyond the next Scottish Mission Session in October 2018. One suggestion that resonated with those present was that the attendees were being encouraged to 'Go' and become champions of evangelism where we are.

The meeting concluded with the charge to become 'Ambassadors' for Christ as though God were making His appeal through us (2 Corinthians 5:20), in the context of the 5.4 million inhabitants of Scotland.

It is the intention that 'GO Scotland' will become an annual event as the Scottish Mission seeks to fulfil its vision to grow healthy local church communities who love God, love sharing our faith, and love each other and our neighbours
