NEW STREET PASTOR AND NEW MEMBERS FOR COLCHESTER
20th June 2013
It was a busy weekend for Colchester members as one of their number became a street pastor, three others were baptised, and visiting preacher, Pastor Micah Campbell ran a two day 'Revitalise and Energize' revival.
Friday, 7 June was a big day for Trevor as he was commissioned as a street pastor after 12 weeks of training and going out three times as an observer. Elders and members of the church attended the service at the Sky Rooms in Colchester ‒ a night club where the room was donated free by the owner in appreciation for what Colchester street pastors do in the town on Friday and Saturday nights.
Trevor said, "I remember years ago when I was in town getting drunk and even lying in my own vomit. I wish street pastors were there then. I have turned my life around and I am now a street pastor helping those on the streets late at night." This involves helping those who are the worse for wear, giving first aid, water, flip-flops, helping them to get home safely and, most importantly, listening to them if they want to talk. Street pastors volunteer on Friday and Saturday between the hours of 10 pm - 4 am. As Personnel Ministries leader for Colchester church, Trevor believes that we need to do as the Apostle Paul did, and go out where the people are.
That same evening, Micah Campbell presented part one of his two day revival series. The following day, Colchester church was packed with many friends and family members to witness three young people accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour. Lois, Tanaka and Andre were led through their baptismal commitments by Elder L D Moyo, later to be baptised by Pastor Andrew Davies with Pastor Campbell giving the word of blessing upon the 3 candidates. The revival series concluded the same evening.
