New Minister for Great Yarmouth

1st February 2018

The Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft District has been awaiting the arrival of its new minister since the relocation of Pastor Rio Espulgar to Somerset at the end of September. Our new pastor was appointed to commence 15 January 2018.

Pastor Mark Borrett and his wife Norma spent just over 22 years in northern California. During that time, as members of the Gracepoint Adventist church they both served in various leadership roles while Mark continued working for HP. One of those roles was Evangelism and Outreach coordinator.

Upon their arrival in January, we took to introducing the new pastoral couple to the local community by running an 'interview' article in The Link, our own community newspaper put out by the church in Great Yarmouth. An article was also emailed to *Network Yarmouth, an ecumenical e-letter that goes out each week, and also to the Great Yarmouth Mercury, the local newspaper. This resulted in the pastor being interviewed by the BBC. They had picked up the story from Network Yarmouth and BBC Radio Norfolk were broadcasting it on Sunday, 28 January. Things happened so quickly. On the Friday, 26 January, there was a good article in The Great Yarmouth Mercury, and since they are part of a larger concern, the writer was informed by a non-Adventist that the Eastern Daily Press had also published the article in the Saturday's edition. Wow! The media works fast! The broadcast on **BBC Radio Norfolk was in the morning's religious section from 6:00 till 9:00, during which the Seventh-day Adventist church in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft (although the focus was on its new pastor from California) was mentioned seven times.

We thank God that the 'increase of knowledge' now at our fingertips can be utilized for extending Christ's Kingdom; and it is our prayer that by using the media to promote God's cause will bear fruit through the many avenues of communication that the Holy Spirit can influence as we partnership with the Almighty in God's final proclamation of 'the everlasting gospel'. Then Jesus can come, and He will come!
